Which wattage for which shoot
- Up to a 60 watt class light: one person at a desk, a small product, a flat lay. One light is enough at close range.
- 100 to 200 watt class: an interview in a room, a small set or a group of two or three. Pair one with a softbox.
- 300 watt class and up: larger rooms, shooting against bright windows, or filling a wide space. Add a diffuser, because a bright small light looks harsh on faces.
- 600 watt class: film sets, outdoor fills in daylight and large halls. These need a stable stand and a proper mains socket.
Bi-color, daylight or RGB
Daylight lights are brightest and match sunlight. Bi-color lights let you adjust from warm to cool, which helps when you mix with room lamps. RGB lights add coloured effects, useful for music videos, parties and product shots with a background glow. If you are unsure, a bi-color light is the safer choice for interviews and events.
Costs for common jobs
- Product shoot, one day: a ring light at Rs. 200 plus one panel at Rs. 300 is Rs. 500.
- Two person interview: two SL60II lights for two days, Rs. 1,000 in total.
- Small YouTube studio for a week: an SL200 III for 5 days is Rs. 3,250, about Rs. 650 a day, against Rs. 750 a day at the day rate.
